About
Independent living, supported.
Witho is a Bradford-based technology start-up rebuilding home support around the one thing the care sector keeps forgetting: people’s independence.
Why we exist
The two-million-person gap.
There are roughly two million older adults in England with what the sector politely calls "unmet needs". They aren’t ill enough to qualify for a council package. They don’t want a care agency in a uniform. But the weekly shop is heavy, the iPad has frozen, and the GP appointment is on a Tuesday at half past ten.
That gap — between perfectly fine and needing a care home — is where Witho lives. We don’t do clinical care. We do the day-to-day. A friendly local person, by the hour, paid fairly, vetted properly. That’s the whole idea.
Why Bradford
The youngest city in the UK, supporting its eldest.
Bradford is the youngest city in the UK by median age, with a fast-growing student population at the University of Bradford and Leeds Beckett. It’s also home to a significant population of older adults living independently in family homes.
That mix — energetic students looking for meaningful flexible work, older adults wanting a friendly hand — is exactly what makes Witho possible. We start in BD, and we expand city-by-city as we get it right.
Founder
Hello, I’m Mendhy.
I’m a doctor by training and I run a group of nineteen care homes across the UK. Every week I meet families in our lounges who tell me the same thing: their parent was fine at home — they just needed a hand. They couldn’t find one.
Witho is for those families. It’s the platform I wished existed for my own. A modern, kind, transparent way to find a friendly local person who can sort the day-to-day — so the people we love can stay where they belong.
